Check out the Cougar Cafe menu for a buffet of reading and learning opportunities, both at Conn and in our community. Just as we eat a variety of foods to keep our bodies fit, keeping our minds fit requires all kinds of reading: fiction and nonfiction; print and digital; books, ebooks and magazines. Conn's got it all!
As we all return to school, students and staff alike both ask, "What did you do over the summer?" Sometimes it's a writing assignment and sometimes just a conversation starter. Here's something I did over the summer to grow and learn about using the Library of Congress and primary sources (the original documents, photographs, sound recordings, etc) to engage students in inquiry based learning. This was my second time at Mars Hill University as part of their Teaching with Primary Sources course offerings. The blog was written by a colleague, but she included me so I thought I'd just share.
http://sedleyabercrombie.blogspot.com/2014/07/summer-retreat-for-educators-primary.html Welcome back to your library media center! I brought a little summer back with me, but am in need of some help. I found all these great things on the NC shore, but I wonder what they are. Do you wonder? Come by and use the books provided or your iPad to investigate what you find on my beach table. I appreciate the help! :) Wake County Public Library has kicked off it's summer reading program "Spark a Reaction" for kids AND adults! Grab a book and let it take you on a trip to distant lands or meet new people. Check out all the activities here:

In addition to reading, I love to play competitive tennis; hike & camp in the mountains; garden and create outdoor art; walk Mocha, my chocolate lab; visit my son in NYC; and learn new things! Archives
