Attn Parents!! Why reading aloud is soooo important!

Our children's brains develop so rapidly before the age of 5. It is so important to read aloud to them to develop language and instill value in the printed word. Take two minutes to watch this video of Dr. Hutton, a pediatrician and researcher, as he speaks to way your child's brain develops and the importance of reading aloud to them every day....long past the age of 5!!

For the month of February, I encourage you to focus on the lesser known individuals that have made a difference in history. While Martin Luther King, Jr and Rosa Parks are valuable individuals to study, there are hundreds of others that have contributed to our history. We have Black History Month books showcased in the library, including biographies of African Americans, along with the works of African American authors and illustrators. Please stop by and select a title. In addition to the links below Netrekker, BrainPop and Discovery Education have an abundance information and resources. One of my favorites is MopTop Shop, a site with African American scientists just for kids! Happy reading and learning!

    Ms. Shore

In addition to reading, I love to play competitive tennis; hike & camp in the mountains; garden and create outdoor art; walk Mocha, my chocolate lab; visit my son in NYC; and learn new things!
