Dragonbreath author Ursula Vernon on Sept. 15 @ 7 p.m. at Quail Ridge Books. She's launching a new series, Hamster Princess Harriett the Invincible! Artemis Fowl author Eoin Colfer and illustrator Oliver Jeffers (The Day the Crayons Quit) bring their new book Imaginary Fred to Quail Ridge Books on Oct.2 @ 6 p.m. You don't want to miss it! Yesterday a couple came into the media center with a wonderful gift...4 boxes of gently used books! Thank you to the United Methodist Women of Trinity UMC for their generous donation. Their goal is to provide books for students who need them at home for summer reading. The kids will be soooooo excited!
Our Summer Birds reading program is for kids 5-7.
For kids 9+, we're now starting registration for the Summer Kids Book Club. It kicks off Thursday, July 9, at 7:00 p.m. and will run for five Thursdays. There is a $5 fee per child to cover all the sessions (snack provided). Registrants receive a 21% discount on books used in the club. The first book kids will read is Capture the Flag by Kate Messner (Scholastic $6.99). For more info, and to register, visit Summer Kids. Ms. Marshall, public librarian at Richard B. Harrison library on New Bern Ave, visited with Conn first graders today to talk about summer reading and library cards. Did you know that with your public library card you can check out more than 100 books at a time! Wow, you'd need a BIG bag! Richard B. Harrison Library, part of the Wake Co. Public Library System, is getting geared up for your summer reading and fun! They're planning read alouds, book clubs, hands on activities, and guests like pot bellied pigs and a guy who can spin 11 basketballs! They're so close to Conn, you can almost walk. Don't miss the fun! "Tumblebook-of-the-Day" - A brand new book will appear every day. You'll see books which correspond to seasons, holidays, and events. Access it through the Online Resources tab. It's like opening a new surprise everyday!

As the year winds down, it is time to begin returning library books. All books are due Friday, May 22. As part of our Race to the End, classes with all books returned will be visited by Wanda the Prize Fairy to thank them and deliver a wee treat. Please help your student's class earn Wanda's prize by returning books or paying for lost books. Payment must be in exact cash or a check payable to Conn ES.
