Boy, it's been a long time since I posted, sorry guys. Here are a few titles I highly recommend:
Under a War Torn Sky by L.M. Elliott World War II pilot Henry Forester of Richmond, VA was shot down over German occupied France. The French Resistance fighters help as Henry tries to cross France to rejoin his unit. Across a War Tossed Sea by L.M. Elliott A companion book to Under a War Torn Sky, Ms. Elliott tells the story of two young British brothers, evacuated to America during World War II. They land in the hometown of pilot Henry Forester. My blog journey begins with Kate DiCamillo's Flora & Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures. This is a new book to Conn's media center. Flora Belle Buckman , a comic-reading self-professed cynic, rescues a squirrel from a neighbor's suped-up run away vacuum cleaner. When he is revived, Ulysses demonstrates super powers such as understanding human speech, communicating via typewriter, and the ability to fly. This was a fantastical read, complete with fabulous pencil drawings by K. G. Campbell. I recommend 4th or 5th grade check this out for a great read! And it's just been posted this morning as ALA's choice for 2014 Newbery Award! |
