Our students will know Ms Weatherford because we use her book Freedom on the Menu in the media center to study the history of race relations in the US and NC. She will be at Quail Ridge Books to present her new book, Freedom in Congo Square, on Wednesday, Jan 13, at 5 p.m. This vibrantly-illustrated picture book introduces us to New Orleans' Congo Square, the one place slaves could gather and find some measure of freedom to sing and dance and maintain cultural traditions. With its colorful images and simple rhyme, Freedom nimbly and accurately conveys the lives of slaves to young children. For ages 4+.
